Enterprise Architects Need TOGAF!

There is an amazing event about to take place on July the 16th in Washington DC…so if you’re around that way, make sure you get there!

The conference will be looking at the importance of the use of TOGAF; The Open Group Architectural Framework in enterprise architecture. Speakers such as Chris Armstrong who will be examining just how governments in particular use certain frameworks in order to improve the planning of their architectural work along with their IT implementations.

Don’t know who Chris Armstrong is? Well in brief he is a much respected man who is a master in formal modelling, process improvement and agile development. Not only this but this leading man also co-chairs the world of TOGAF along with many others. However he will be speaking on the 16th of July about the new TOGAF 9 certification tool which is now available and prospering as I type.

During the conference you will hear Armstrong examine exactly what TOGAF is and what it can be used be for. Whilst doing this he will be relating it to the Department of Defence by demonstrating the benefits of both these groups working alongside one another together. This will therefore be called DODAF2; Department of Defence Architecture Framework.

The conference will then go on to discuss where both TOGAF and DODAF have been in the past and where they are hoping they will go to, along with the importance of them now working together in the busy 21st century society.

To begin with I would like to clarify the importance of TOGAF along with its essential components of which it has. TOGAF understand the way in which EA work is done and the framework they work around. It also allows all skills and experiences the practitioners go through to be communicated in order to learn from them or indeed by them. TOGAF also allows it to be used as a ‘one stop shop’ which can provide everything you need and want by simply turning to the use of it. However, it also allows us to acknowledge that there are other components out there which are just as valuable and could be used in substitution of it.

TOGAF will work very naturally with DODAF for many reasons, the most important one being that it can provide the ultimate backdrop and knowledge to the capability of EA.

Therefore the truth is those who work within enterprise architecture not only need TOGAF which will eventually turn to DODAF under their belt but it is a must due to the way industries are now changing the way they work. So, don’t miss out and join in the fun with TOGA
