Bujumbura
Bujumbura is the capital city of Burundi. It was formerly known as Usumbura. The city is the country’s main port and is where the majority of the countries chief export (coffee) is shipped from. In 2012 the unemployment rate had decreased to 7.7% from around 35% 3 years previous. The unemployment rate of the country had averaged 20% between 1990 and 2012. 7.7% is a record low for the country and shows a sign of economic advancement for the country. There are 3 universities in the city of Bujumbura. It is the home of the University of Burundi, Hope Africa University and Université du Lac Tanganyika. The University of Burundi is the only publicly funded university in the country but it is in need of a lot of improvements as a lot of the facilities have deteriorated due to civil war.
