Coffee Trends in 2023

Coffee Trends in the year 2023

Coffee Trends helps us identify the latest developments in the industry. It gives us clues and insights into the changes that can happen in the near future in the Coffee sector and how it can impact its employees. Apart from this, it helps us answer questions like:

a) What is the most crazed Coffee product and why?

b) Will this craze fade, or will it stay for a while?

c) What type of Coffee drinks can we expect in the future?

d) What is the trendiest Coffee drink to arrive recently?

By analysing the current trends, we can get answers to these questions and predict trends for the sector.

Flash Brew

Flash brew is the newest addition to the already popular Coffee brews like Iced Coffee and Cold brew. It is also known as Snap Chilled Coffee. Compared to the other brews, it is much fresher and more flavourful since the Coffee is extracted with hot water. It also tends to be strong since it is not diluted with ice, unlike Iced Coffee.

The hot water added to Flash brew helps retain all the flavour and tastes similar to properly brewed Coffee. It is cooled immediately without diluting or adding ice, giving it a Strong flavour.

Canned Coffee

Canned Coffee was initially popularised by the well-known Coffee chain shop "Starbucks", and since, many local brands have started creating their versions of Canned Coffee. It is also called Bottled or ready-to-go Coffee since it can be carried easily 'on the go'. In the original Canned Coffee, Starbucks offered a type of Caffeine drink called Frappuccino. Now, you can find these Canned caffeine drinks in almost the majority of the local store.

Sustainable Coffee

Humans have been the primary factor for climate change and damaging the environment. More people are realising this, especially the younger generation. From the Millennials to the current Gen-Z, there's a significant demand for sustainable products that don't harm the environment and aggravate global climate change.

Because of this reason, many brands have started to create sustainable Caffeine products. These days people, particularly the younger generation, demand sustainable Coffee products. This resulted in the creation of sustainable Coffee, where the companies procure the product directly from the farmers and minimises their carbon footprint. Coffee bags are one such product that reduces the harmful effects of the company's operations.

Coffee bags

Tea and the British people are inseparable. People in the UK drink about 100 million cups of tea every day. This also led to a huge demand for tea bags. Now the demand for Coffee is picking up some steam in the UK and the rest of the world, which led to the rising demand for new ways to procure Caffeine products. Every day about 98 million cups of Coffee are consumed in the UK, indicating that Coffee could soon overtake the lead from tea. The result was the creation of Coffee bags that are more sustainable and much more convenient for consumers.

Coffee bags follow the same principle as Tea bags and come in a similar sealed bag. To make a delightful cup of Coffee, you need to pour some hot water onto the Coffee bag. Within two to three minutes, you will get a nice cup of Coffee with a very good taste and flavour.

Decaf Coffee

Decaf is a good alternative for people looking to overcome their caffeine addiction since it has all the benefits of Coffee and contains almost 97 per cent less caffeine than regular Coffee. Decaf had a bad reputation initially because of its chemical extraction process. Over the years, it has improved significantly, removing toxic chemicals that were not released in the old method. Decaffeination can be done in two different ways.

a) Method 1: The first method to remove caffeine from Coffee beans is the Swiss Water Process method, where caffeine is removed using charcoal or a carbon dioxide filter.

b) Method 2: In the second method, caffeine can be removed by washing the Coffee beans with organic solvents until the required level of decaffeination is achieved.

Once decaffeinated, the Coffee beans are roasted and finely ground without affecting their nutritional value. The decaffeinated beans will have a light smell, but they won't be as bitter as the regular Coffee beans. These modern methods are much safer than the traditional methods owing to the rising popularity of Decaf Coffee.

Protein Coffee

Protein Coffee is one of the latest Coffee Trends to grow in the year 2023

Ever since the pandemic, the general population has become more health-conscious. People want to lead a healthy lifestyle, and diet plays a crucial role; after all, you're what you eat!

People are looking for healthier ways to eat these days, and Coffee has come on their radar. Now people consume Coffee with added protein to supplement their protein requirement. It was a viral trend in 2022 and will likely continue a similar trajectory in 2023. Does it have any health benefits? It is yet to be seen, but that didn't stop it from becoming a trend that is only growing faster these days.

People take protein Coffee in different ways. One way to do that is to add protein powder to a Coffee drink like an Espresso. You can add ice to the protein Coffee to give it a protein shake-like feel.

Alcohol-Infused Coffee

Alcohol-based Coffee drinks have existed for many years in the form of Caffe Correto, Espresso Martini, and many more. But these only mark the beginning of a new phase. Although, Brewdog, the Scottish Beer company, was the first to introduce a Coffee infused stout with their product called the 'Roller Coaster'. Guinness popularised such drinks and made it a trend with its Cold Brew-Infused Beer.

Coffee is about to become Britain's most popular drink, overtaking Tea's lead. Brewers are trying to tap into this market by experimenting with caffeine to create new types of Alcohol-Infused Coffee drinks. These drinks have the dual benefits of having caffeine and reducing the alcohol volume in your beverage. With the infusion of alcohol, these caffeine drinks can last longer too.

Customised Coffee

Are you a Coffee lover with an undying passion and obsession for Coffee and interested in experimenting with new ingredients?

If you are, now you can choose what ingredients you want in your Coffee and how you want it to be brewed at a Coffee shop near you. Yes, Customisable Coffee has picked up the stream lately and will become mainstream in the future.

Seltzers

Seltzers is a popular drink from the Golden City of Los Angeles. It is often the number one choice for people who want to socialise in a bar but want to avoid consuming alcohol. It is considered a healthy alternative to drinking alcohol, and hard Seltzers are healthier than regular Seltzers.

It is made by mixing Espresso, tonic water, and ice. Due to its sugar content, this Coffee beverage tastes sweet. Many people avoid Seltzers because of their sweet taste.

Collagen Coffee

Collagen Coffee is a type of protein Coffee where Collagen Peptide supplements are mixed with Coffee to add to the nutritional content of the drink. Collagen is a vital protein necessary for maintaining skin health. It helps protect your skin from getting damaged. It also prevents premature ageing. Lately, Collagen Coffee has become a trend, and many popular brands are planning to develop similar products.

Generational Shift

Earlier, older people consumed more Coffee. But in recent years, Millennials and Gen-Z have been drinking more Coffee. However, this trend may change quickly because the young generation is known for quickly jumping from one trend to another. Due to this reason, their preferences change very fast.

The evolution of Nitro Coffee

Although Nitro Coffee made its debut in 2016, only big brands like Starbucks were selling this beverage. Now, this trend is changing, as many small brands are coming up with their version of Nitro Coffee with interesting doodles and artwork made on the surface of the beverage.

Specialised Coffee

One of the upcoming and exciting Trends is Specialised Coffee. These are made by Baristas who are experts in the field. These signature beverages are very different from regular Coffee drinks, so you can expect them to be priced on the higher side. Nevertheless, people still want to try these signature drinks hoping it will make their day special.

Exotic Coffee drinks

Japanese Sumiyaki is an exotic Coffee made by roasting Coffee on charcoal, giving it a unique taste. This exotic caffeine drink has gained a massive following using the power of social media.

How do these Coffee Trends affect the industry?

Coffee Trends dictate the future of the industry and everyone associated with it. Not only that, but it also gives some important insights into the customer mindset. Companies can take advantage of such information and develop new products more aligned with the customer's demand.

These days many people want to try something new and are always looking for new and fancy products. They want something unique and different. It can be a blessing as well as a nightmare. Following such Trends, companies have the freedom and room for innovation, which can be a blessing.
