The Burning Question: How to Renew PRINCE2 Certification?   

Recently PeopleCert (the global leader in the delivery of examination and accreditation services, delivering millions of exams in over 200 countries) announced that at the beginning of 2023, all Global Best Practice certifications will need to be renewed after three years. Based on your feedback, they've been refining the approach and have now shared more details about the PRINCE2 recertification. 

PeopleCert’s new Continuing Professional Development programme is designed to help candidates stay ahead in the competitive labour market. It enables candidates to thrive in their chosen discipline and keep up-to-date with the skills and best practices to support their professional development. 

Below are the new PRINCE2 renewal requirements which can help candidates in the PRINCE2 renewal process- 

1) Which certifications will come with a renewal requirement? 

All global best practice certifications will come with a renewal requirement. 

2) Which candidates will need PRINCE2 renewal? 

All candidates with PRINCE2 certifications will need PRINCE2 renewal within three years of their original certification dates. For candidates, this will mean:

a) If certified before 30 June 2020: candidates will have until 1 July 2023 to renew their certification, regardless of their original award date. 

b) If certified after June 2020: candidates will require PRINCE2 renewal within three years of the original award date.

3) What is the PRINCE2 renewal process?

From 15 January 2023, there will be two PRINCEE2 renewal paths available to candidates: 
 

a) Retake the same exam for the PRINCE2 renewal 

Candidates can do their PRINCE2 recertification by retaking their original exam before the renewal date. 

b) Take further courses and certifications 

Candidates can do their PRINCE2 recertification by attending another course and taking an exam within the same product suite before the renewal date. 

From March 2023, a third renewal path will be available to candidates: 

a) Collect and log CPD points: Candidates can renew their certification by collecting and logging CPD points; more details on this path will follow in January. 

b) Candidates who do not renew will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and the Candidate Verification Service. Still, a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification needs to be renewed to align with current certification requirements. 
 

4) How can accredited trainers renew their certifications?

Accredited trainers will be able to renew their certifications with the three candidate renewal paths mentioned above or by delivering relevant training courses. More information on accredited trainer renewal options can be found online.
