In the 20th century, the University of Surrey and Guildford Cathedral were built. There are many educational facilities in Guildford from state schools, independent schools and higher education. Some primary schools in Guildford include Holy Trinity, Burpham and St Thomas of Canterbury. Guildford’s independent schools include Lanesborough School and Royal Grammar School which is a day school for boys and has around 900 students. 

The Higher Education facilities in Guildford include the University of Surrey, The University of Law and the Guildford School of Acting. The University of Surrey is a research university in Guildford. It was established in 1966 and was previously situated in Battersea Park in London. The University specialised in Science, Engineering, Medicine and Business. The university has expanded their international standing, by opening the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in China. The university does a lot of major work in mobile communications and satellite research, and in 2014 the University of Surrey, King’s College London and the University of Dresden were linked to develop 5G technology.

The University has around 15,000 students and also has the highest graduate employment rate at 96.9% which is higher than the University of Oxdord, Cambridge and King’s College London. The University of Law is a private institution that was established in 1962 and is the largest legal education provider in Europe. The university has around 16,000 students. Some of the alumni from the university include 153 members of parliament, Lord Chief Justices and Lord Chancellors.
