San Pedro Sula is a city in the country of Honduras. It has an estimated population of around 1 million people. This makes it the second largest city in the country behind the capital.

The unemployment rate in Honduras decreased in recent years from an average of 5.03 percent in the years between 1974 and 2013 to an average of 4.3 percent from 2013 onwards.

Honduras has a literacy rate of around 83.6% with a net rate of 89% of primary school enrolment which has been declining over the last decade. San Pedro Sula follows the same educational system as the majority of Honduras which runs from primary education in to secondary education and on to higher education. There is an option at secondary level education for vocational study over academic study, these schools are known as carreras which run 2-3 year programs. The most common carreras are usually perrito mercantil (accounting) and negocios (business). Some of the schools in the area of San Pedro Sula include; Ovidio Decroly Christian School and Saint Michaels School.  

The university is ruled by National Autonomous University of Honduras is the public university in Honduras, it has campuses in the most important cities in Honduras including San Pedro Sula. It is one of the largest universities in Central America in terms of enrolment. The campus in San Pedro Sula is the UNAH-VS (UNAH Valle de Sula).
