What is PRINCE2 7th Edition?

PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments), the project management method and practitioner certification programme, has a new edition coming soon. The upcoming edition will be known as PRINCE2 7th Edition, and its courses will be available from September 2023.

How is PRINCE2 7th Edition different from the previous Edition?

The principles and processes of the PRINCE2 programme will be the same as the previous edition. However, the length of the course will be different – while the Foundation course will now be delivered over 3 days, and the Practitioner level over 2 days. Some of the notable changes to the content of the course are listed below:

1) People management: The concept of People management is an addition to the new PRINCE2 edition, which includes the importance of leading people and leading changes.

2) Sustainability and data management: More new concepts such as sustainability management and data management are also introduced.

3) Agility: The new PRINCE2 edition will also focus on tailoring to enhance agility, beginning at the Foundation level of the course.

I am currently not qualified in any version of PRINCE2. How will this affect me?

You should sign up for the PRINCE2 7th Edition Foundation and Practitioner Courses.

I currently hold a PRINCE2 6th Edition Practitioner qualification and want to reregister. What should I do?

If you hold a PRINCE2 6th Edition Practitioner qualification and want to register for PRINCE2 7th Edition, it is recommended that you start from the 7th Edition Foundation level. 

How will the format of the PRINCE2 exams change?

Foundation level

For the PRINCE2 7th Edition Foundation level examination, there have been no changes made to the format from the previous edition. However, the pass mark has been increased from 55% to 60% (36 correct answers).

Practitioner level

The PRINCE2 7th Edition Practitioner level examination will have a total of 70 questions, instead of 68. The pass mark has been increased from 55% to 60%, while the duration of the exam remains 2.5 hours. The exam will be based on one of the four scenarios that are included in the new version of the manual.

What are the prerequisites for PRINCE2 7th Edition?

Foundation level

There are no prerequisites for the PRINCE2 7th Edition Foundation level course.

Practitioner level

The prerequisites for the PRINCE2 7th Edition Practitioner level course are as follows: 

1) PRINCE2® 6th Edition (Foundation or Practitioner)

2) PRINCE2®7 Foundation

3) Project Management Qualification (PMQ)

4) Project Professional Qualification (PPQ)

5) Project Management Professional (PMP)®

6) Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

7) IPMA Level A® (Certified Projects Director)

8) IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)

9) IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)

10) IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)

You should keep in mind that due to the extent of the changes between versions, PRINCE2 5th Edition and all the editions preceding it will not be considered as prerequisites for the PRINCE2 7th Edition Practitioner level course.
