Rome is the capital city of Italy and the Lazio region. Rome has around 2,900,000 people living within the community and another 4,321,000 people living in the metropolitan city area. The Sapienza University of Rome is a collegiate research university founded in Rome. The university was established in 1303 and is one of the oldest in the country. The university is also the largest university in Europe in terms of enrollment, having around 112,500 students in attendance at any one time. There are many notable alumni that have attended the university, such as Evangelista Torricelli who invented the Barometer and Umberto Guidoni who was an astronaut and a veteran of two NASA space shuttle missions.
