Prerequisites of the IIBA® Certified Business Analysis Professional Course

CBAP® is an experience-based professional certification. It requires the following professional work experience:

  •  A minimum of 7500 hours in the last 10 years
  • Within these work experience hours, a minimum of 900 hours must cover 4 of the 6 BABOK® Guide knowledge areas

In addition to this, it requires:

  • A minimum of 35 hours of professional development in the last 4 years
  • Two references from either a career manager, client (internal or external) or CBAP® recipient

No, there is no formal exam at the end of this course. However, delegates are assessed through practical exercises and activities throughout the training to ensure they understand and can apply the concepts effectively.

The elements of a strategic plan typically include a mission statement, vision statement, core values, goals, objectives, action plans, performance metrics, and a clear evaluation and monitoring process.
Popular Agile methodologies include Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), and Crystal. These approaches focus on flexibility, collaboration, and iterative development to enhance project delivery.
CBAP® certification remains valid for three years and requires renewal through earning Continuing Development Units (CDUs) as per IIBA guidelines.
The six knowledge areas of the BABOK® Guide are Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis and Design Definition, and Solution Evaluation.
If you fail the CBAP® exam, you can retake it. However, you must wait for a specific period (usually 30 days) before attempting again. Additional fees apply for re-examination, and you may need to review the areas where you didn't perform well.
The CBAP® (Certified Business Analysis Professional) is for experienced business analysts with at least 5 years of professional experience, while the CCBA® (Certification of Competency in Business Analysis) is for individuals with 2-3 years of experience. CBAP® requires a higher level of expertise and more hours of professional development, whereas CCBA® is designed for those earlier in their business analysis career.
To maintain your CBAP® certification, you must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three years by participating in relevant activities such as training, workshops, or conferences related to business analysis. Additionally, you must adhere to the certification's code of conduct and keep your contact information up to date with the certifying body.
